See Like a Designer

Look for the 'bones' to observe how form defines design. It happens during almost every furniture design workshop. At the start of day two, a carload of students shows up 20 minutes late. One would think they'd be embarrassed, …Source

Grill Table Backsplash and cabinets

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Grill Table Backsplash and cabinetsGrill table backsplash I made with Red Cedar. Resawed the cedar and planed it to 1/4 in. then cut it into boards about 3 in. wide and added a bead with a moulding head on the table saw. If you take a close look it's obvious it was not a “professional” job, lol, but I have come to accept my humanity and realize that I am not a pro. Using solid wood as a paneling I should have left a little space for expansion, so it buckled a little in a couple of places. Still, I'm happy with it. Finished everything with three coats of Helmsman Spar varnish. I also made a beverage cooler to match. The plans called for using a certain size cooler with a drain in it, but I couldn't find that size – nor worries I thought – I had some 1 in. thick foam board insulation laying around so I cut it to size and glued it in place. Only later did I find out that foam board will absorb water, so now I'm going to make a plastic box to fit inside. Is there any other way to learn besides the hard way? Thanks for looking

Sound deadening panels for recording studio

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Sound deadening panels for recording studioThese are deadening panels for a friend's recording studio. They are walnut carcasses filled with insulation, finished with Danish oil. The fabric is some sort of weed barrier my buddy got at the home store. I stapled the fabric to the carcass then put the trim over it. One of these days I'll be credited on an album! What are the royalties for the sound panel guy? For the life of me I can't figure out how to post pictures oriented correctly, and in this case, I don't care.

Friendship shrine - thoughts to all my LJ friends.

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Friendship shrine - thoughts to all my LJ friends.Friendship shrine
thoughts to all my LJ friends. This project emerged out of friendships, that I made on LJ, some that grew over the years, some that vanished and some of them went into personal friendships, one even to a brother, with a different mother. This post is from the blog: https://www.lumberjocks.com/mafe/blog/132738The background:
Over the years a lot of LJ friends, has send or given me little packs, some with tools, but for this story, most importantly with pieces of wood, from all over the planet and a lot of these pieces had just been collecting dust, as I had no idea, how to use them, others are long gone into projects.
So back in 2016 I decided to see if I could figure out a project, that could have all these pieces of wood incorporated and this is what gave birth to this project. The project:
I decided it had to be a personal thing for me, as it would hold this wood, that were given to me from others with love. After some weeks of thinking I decided that a man's shrine (valet), would be such a thing and that the word shrine, would have a sacred feel to it.
Next up were a wee time at the sketch block and the drawing table and the idea were born.
Pictures:
1. Friendship shrine.
2. Wood from LJ friends.
3. Drawing the idea.
4. Making little drawers.
5. Finger joints.
6. Shrine before wax.

Hope it can be to some inspiration, I thank you all for your inspiration.Best thoughts,MaFe
