Small mesquite valet - hand tools

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Small mesquite valet - hand tools In July we spent some time with friends in Texas at their ranch. They graciously gave me some mesquite so I made this valet for their guest room from a few pieces of that mesquite. I've been wanting to get more into hand tool builds so this was a project for trying. The material is mesquite with a simple Purple Heart band for interest. I intentionally left some of the imperfections in the wood to capture a rustic Texas feel for the piece. and my miters were a bit imperfect as well. Always room for improvement, but overall happy with the finished piece.

Basswood carved box

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Basswood carved boxThis box has been kicking around my workbench for 6 months, unfinished and banished to my “what was I thinking” pile. I actually was pleased early on with my carving but I went down a bad color path with the milk paints and never could get the desire to put a knob/handle on it until today.
I came up with this rather whimsical handle to put the project to rest. It's got some merit to it as a seasonal decoration and I really enjoyed carving in basswood but it's a lesson in what color can do to your work… sometimes it enhances and sometimes it's a dud.
Appreciate all comments,
Tom

Snake

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Snake Due to lockdown, my kids need entertaining a bit more than usual. So I chose an easy project that they'd love and can help build themselves. This project is so fun to hold in your hands and feels uncannily organic. A big hit with the kids, too (they want to make baby ones now – perhaps beyond my skill!Macrocarpa with a leather spine. The in-progress photo is the eel my 11yo daughter is currently making for herself. (we don't have snakes in NZ, just native eels, which are loved by everyone). From https://woodworkingmasterclasses.com/videos/snake/
