Shaker Night Stands

Shaker Night Stand. I made two of these as bedside tables for my daughter. It was my first furniture project, prior projects have just been setting up my garage furniture. There was some mounting pressure to “so when are you going to make something?” They are a very traditional Shaker Night Stand, the timber is salvaged quarter sawn Elm from Melbourne University, which I was lucky enough to help mill. The drawer fronts are a veneer of Figured Maple from a piece that I was able to bring home with me in my suitcase after attending the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine. The Elm has been oiled with Danish Oil, and the drawers French Polished – my first attempt.
