Carved Jolly Santa Ornament

Before we start carving, here are a few basic carving principles. Stop cuts are cuts that protect areas you don't want to remove. These simply sever the fibers and define shapes, allowing you to make cuts into them without cutting Source

Tusked Trestle Table Design?
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
I've been asked to build this table base on a picture. All of it that I can see is easy. It's the fastening to the top that has me asking questions.
I've built a trestle table (pic attached). It was easy. Two runners between each leg assembly supported the top; a trestle stretched between the vertical posts in the legs. Easy peasy, but it was all glued together hard.
This one is knock-down.
Do you attachthe two leg assemblies to the top (with your favorite wood-movement-allowing method) with nothing between the leg assembliesand then hammer in the bottom stretcher's tusks? Are there runners under the top? I don't think there are but I'm not sure. Read more here

Show Me Your Slab Bench
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
Hi Folks,
For once in my life, I successfully flattened a pear wood slab. Originally, the tree was blown down by Hurricane Ike. Myself and a friend harvested several of these trees. Over the years, this particular slab bent along the middle, with a fair amount of warping thrown in for good measure. I sawed down the middle with a circ saw, jointed each of the two halves, and then glued it back together. It's very flat and will be ready to go with just a bit of touch up.The results are shown in the pictures.
I'd like to make a bench, and would be grateful for advice and suggestions.
Side A or B? With a back, or not? What style? Can you show a picture of a similar one that you made?
Thanks, Mark

Easy Way to Biscuit-join Edgebanding
Furnished content. (from Popularwoodworking.com)
by James QuinlivanPage 12I edge-band plywood shelves with solid wood, attaching the edge-banding with #20 biscuits. It's no problem at all to hold the plywood shelf solidly while cutting the slot; that's what bench dogs and an end vise do so well. But the edgebanding itself can be a little squirmy, either bending or rotating when held between dogs or slipping if held by the ends in a vise.I finally realized I could use the Veritas Wonder Pup (#05G10.03 at leevalley.com) to capture the edgebanding between the Wonder Pup and a dog while another dog kept the edgebanding from rotating. With the biscuit cutter registering off the benchtop, this setup is nice and secure.Video: Watch videos of some of our tricks at work at popularwoodworking.com/tricks.Source
