How to Create an Irregular Mortise and Tenon in SketchUp

A student wrote and asked me this paraphrased question: Can you give me some suggestions for drawing these irregular tenons into the legs? If the mortises were rectangular I would simply use the Rectangle tool to trace one onto the face of the leg and Push/Pull it to depth. I exaggerated his tenon in the image to emphasize the problem. Fall Fair Wrap-up (Warning Cute Woodworking Projects Ahead)

The school was packed with guests who climbed up and down our townhouse stairs visiting classroom after classroom which were converted into magical vignettes from a medieval forest to a crystal filled cave.
