Attaching Base Cabinets to CinderBlocks?
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
I'm ready to attach the base cabinets for my miter station. I've got some 3 Tapcons. Is this the proper way to go about it? Use a regular drill bit to go through the ply nailer strip; then use the Tapcon masonry bit and a hammer drill to make the pilot hole in the cinder block. A hammer drill to drive in the Tapcons.
Is the a trick to drilling the pilot hole with it getting to wide? Last time I drilled into cinder block, the vibration from the hammer drill caused the bit to wobble a bit,and a bunch of the pilot holes were too wide for the Tapcons to bite. (Or maybe I did something else wrong?)
Also, should I try to find the the solid part of the cinder block so I not drilling into the void? Or is the wall of the cinder block strong enough.
Thanks in advance.

What's a good book on dining tables?
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
More specifically, this table will go in a bay window dining area where the window seats have already been constructed, so it will probably be a little oddly shaped and more casual that a formal dining room table. I've built threetables before. One was a large four legged dining table and two were smaller trestle tables, but I don't consider myself an expert. I'm doing this for a neighbor and if there is a good comprehensive book out there that covers both design and construction I'm sure I could benefit from it. Papa Jim

4H Project- Waterfall Bookcase
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
Just wanted to brag on my son for completing his 4H Fair project- a waterfall bookcase. Credit to my wife for picking the plans, it's not something I would have picked but I like the finished product a lot.It is made of mahogany, with a dye stain/ shellac finish, and has a dovetailed drawer (machine cut).

The bamboo cutting board is from The Cutting Board Company, https://www.cuttingboardcompany.com/_kx=...%3D.WEvYf8
Yes, I've made my own in the past, but not from bamboo.
The Epicurean panels are from Lee Valley:

I screwed 4 rubber feet on the underside to keep it from sliding.

Bench screw swelling
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
This is probably a question for the finishing forum, but I bought a lake Eriebench screw and nut. Here in Iowa the humidity can get kind of high. I had my screw and nut at my shop, which has no heat or cooling, only a window fan if I open the window. The wood swelled up so that turning the screw got kind of hard. I took it home which is air conditioned and overnight it was fine. A couple of years ago it got so tight I couldn't turn it at all.
I have been thinking that maybe if I put an oil finish on it it might block the wood from taking on moisture. Has any one else had any experience with this and how did you fix it?I would like to use it on a Moravian bench I am building.
Thanks,
Tom

60" Diameter MCM Table in White Oak
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
This won't be much of a photo blog, more of a video blog. As I perform each major step in the process, I'll be uploading them to YouTube. Once it's finished, I'll edit the footage and create a much-less-painful video to watch.
But if you're into woodworking ASMR, enjoy!
Back story:
I was contacted by somebody through my website. No big deal, right? No. This was my FIRST contact through my site, by somebody I didn't know, and who had no other connection with me. They presented a couple of ideas they had but weren't wedded to. We talked back and forth, and I ended up sending them the attached pic I found on line.
They loved it, but wanted it thicker and in white oak, so it's to be built from 1-3/4" thick lumber.
I set about designing it (with help from others here), and presented them the drawing and a quote. They agreed, signed the contract, and sent the deposit.
Videos start in the next post.

So what am I trying to say, that I am against dust collectors and air cleaners? No, I have 6 dust collectors and 2 air cleaners and I have found that I can not collect 100% of the dust and chips at any machine. I have gone mostly to battery powered sanders and small routers and if I do not want to be connected by a cord then I figure I do not want to be connected to a vac. Some times a broom and dust pan are good enough

Oil on teak
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
I accidentally spilled a few drops of chain saw oil on a teak table I'm restoring for a friend. I tried using denatured alcohol on it and the stain is still there. Any suggestions to get it out?
