A bench I started 2 years ago
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
I started building a Moravian bench 2 years ago. And I finally got back to it yesterday. I must say that this is the most challenging bench I have ever built. It is not for the faint hearted. A Roubo is much easier. In one of the pictures is the block that holds the vise hardware. the other is just the chop. I need to get the ends glued together so I can cut the dove tailed pieces on the end. I got the sockets done. The piece that holds the vise hardware is not yet mortised in. And the last picture is the 4 inch top I haven't decided is I am going to do a split top or put on a tool tray or a split top with a tool tray. I have a couple of boards under the stretchers that keep the end pieces off the bench top about 1/32 if an inch for easier removal and installation. One picture is the only print I have of the bench and believe me most is made to the size it is because I chose those sizes. and the print is coffee stained to boot. Since cherry is my favoritewood and I got some walnut at a very good price, the legs are walnut andthe top is Ash. On the bench every thing is setting on the legs and stuff are cherry
anyway pictures,

Red cedar??
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
I salvaged a few outdoor sitting benches. They have aluminum frames and are pretty cheaply made. Do they use red cedar on these dept store benches. Just wondering it looks like pine but after cutting it up I got the "cedar itches"

Woodworking YouTubers?
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
I was thinking the other day about how much traffic on this forum has declined. I figured that YouTube is probably the first place that people go these days when they want to learn something new. I do that a lot myself...
So.... What YouTubers are you watching that you really like?
Me, I watch a lot of blacktail studio. I don't really care for epoxy tables all that much, but there is something about watching his builds that I find enjoyable.

Rosin stick belt dressing
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
For years I've used a "rosin stick" for V-belt dressing for belts that tend to slip under load. It was a size very similar to grease gun tube lubricant, with a heavy paper wrap. Unfortunately it's managed to hide somewhere and I've not been able to find it. So, I did a search for the product, and have not been able to find it anywhere. The rosin stick worked better than any other belt dressing I've tried, held against the belt under power briefly would normally take care of any slipping . Wondering if anyone knows of a source for this product if it's still available anywhere.

Spray room ventilation
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
My spray room is approximately 10 1/2' x 7' x 9'. I spray exclusively waterborne finishes so I see no need to exhaust to the outside. I just need to be able to get filtered air into the room and also filter the air as it leaves the room. Approximately 660 cubic feet of air in the room.
What kind of fan do people use? I wondered about the fan mentioned in the air cleaner thread but I don't know how many CFM's I really need. I would think exchanging the air volume every 30 - 60 seconds would work or am I wrong??!!

Installing a Carbon Fiber Rod Into An Already Finished Instrument
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
I made a dulcimer guitar (Google it) last year. They have a very long and narrow neck so naturally over time the neck started to bow. I finally got it back into the shop and was able to fix the problem by dropping a carbon fiber rod into the neck. This video shows the process.

Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
Need a couple sheets of prefinished maple ply and my the place I used to get it from has closed. HD offers via special order Columbia Forest 'Purebond' maple ply in half sheets 24x96, and I can live with that. They get good reviews on line.
Anyone else have experience with this product?

Design help
Furnished content. (from WoodNet.net)
I am finally replacing my 20 year old Target particle board nightstands with something new and durable. They've been through a lot of abuse. But I want something more bed level (not 8 inches below, as they are now) and much more durable (I will use the ceramic finish, as I've been happy with my desk).
Now, what I would like to do is an "open shelf" just under the top, something like this (not the design, just the open shelf) My design will be more traditional, like atypical Shaker or Mission, but I think for a clean look based on how I use it a top shelf would be helpful. The Shaker designs I see online have open storage on the bottom. Top is a bit more challenging.
My question is how would I best design this so that I can attach the top? It will be a zebrawood top (they're already done) with a mostly walnut cabinet. I normally screw the tops in from underneath. If the open shelf is about 6" or something like that (I haven't decided yet) that doesn't leave a whole lot of room for screwing the top in. I could try an extension with a right angle drill attachment, which I don't have but are not expensive. I worry they will have enough torque, but maybe they do. Otherwise, I don't see a way to easily attach the top. Any thoughts?
