I built this workbench featured in Woodsmith #50 some time ago. Did not build the cabinet underneath. Used mostly (98%?) reclaimed hardwood material, accumulated over time mainly from pallets . Amazing some of the wood found in those pallets.

When I moved from the humid Southeast to the arid Mountain West 20 years ago, the top shrank and a split developed down the top. A contributing factor was probably the bottom of the tray to the right. Specs called for the holes attaching it to the bottom of the top be elongated to allow for seasonal movement. "Yours truly" either overlooked or ignored this detail and paid the price as I think it pulled the pieces apart, i.e. something's got to give!


In any event, the top was due for an overhaul.

Required a hoist to remove the top from the base.

Drawers Too Wide. argh.

I'm making drawers for Blum undermount slides. They're all assembled, and of course they're all about 1/4 too wide.
Is there an easy fix for this? I thought about using my dado set to take 1/8 off the bottom 1.5 of the drawer sides.

I've been out of the shop for years. I'm making a simple cabinet, with ply drawers. What should I use to finish the interior of the drawers? Arm-R-Seal? Just wipe with BLO?

Wood Magazine Index or lack of

Do you feel it is strange that Wood Magazine no longer has an index of their plans, so if you want to build a project that you saw in Wood Magazine a few years ago, there is no way to find out what issue it was in? So people like me, who have boughtevery issue from day one, have no way of searching for a plan from the past. They used to have a printable index online, which was great, but I wanted to search for a plan I remember from Wood and couldnt fine it. So I emailed them and was told they no longer have it available. I feel that they are not taking care of their customers. If you have kept your back issue and feel like Wood should furnish its customers with a way to search back issues, shoot the editor an email and see if we can get them to publish it again.Here is the editor's email

Small project that took way too long to finish. This was one of those projects that you start, then set aside to work on something else, then do a little more work, then set aside a little longer.

I made this for a granddaughter. Walnut was scraps from several different projects so some miss-matched color, but I was able to use up those scraps.

Parts for fishing net

24" Incra Miter Runner Question

Hello All,

I have two 24" Incra Miter Sliders. I used them for a TS Sled and I wanted to make a new sled so I took the sliders off and I was trying to adjust the hex screws (which tighten so the runner fitssnugly in the miter slot) and I noticed that several of the 3/32" adjustment holes were stripped. I did contact Incra and they replied right away with a link to order more from their site. They sell them in packs of 3 for $4.95 with $6.00 shipping. That is not too bad but I was wondering if anyone knew where to source the screws directly? I asked ChatGPT and ChatGPT gave me the following spec:

#6-32 x 3/8 flat head socket cap screw

That seems right but then it went on about a head angle of 82 or 90 degrees? The head angle may not matter.

Anyone know the correct spec and where do buy the screws? Attaching a picture from an internet search.

A Fun Day Playing Loggers

He offered me a black cherry tree to cut down and mill into lumber. Yesterday, we took my trailer down to his place and picked out a nice tree at about 22" DBH. It fell right where he intended and we got 4 logs at 9.5 ft long before the major fudge , one lead from which was broken off.[/font]

We drug the logs out with his tractor and I loaded two of them onto my trailer with my arch/winch system.

What a great day. We'll go back for the other two logs in the next couple of weeks. I can't wait to mill them. There's no black cherry where I live, so this is a real treat.

vibration free random orbit sander?

I'm sure that a 100% vibration free random orbital sander isn't mechanically possible, but I bet some have less vibration causing less fatiguethan others so which would those be?
Perhaps I should look intoa pneumatic sander?
Any recommendations that don't break the bank to hard?
