Neckyoke for a 2 horse hitch

A new piece of ash for an old Neckyoke used when hitching up a team of heavy work horses to a plow or wagon. I'm going to let my customer install the centre ring as per his request. First time doing a long turn, 42 inches. It was the full of my lathe plus the bed extension.

Chinaberry Footed Natural Edge Bowl

Another quick and simple once turned bowl.
I love this Chinaberry and only have a few more pieces left to turn. I expect it to darken a bit but it is gorgeous when freshly cut. This blank was not quite cut from a crotch piece but just above the fork and the piece had a very flat side where the two branches were almost grown together. I think the compressed grain is one of the reasons the wood has so much chatoyance.
I had a little tearout where the grain was so figured. The grain is so squirrelly and wild it runs in many different directions. I experimented with a negative rake scraper I reground from a regular round nose scraper and got so so results. I tried scraping with a razor (by hand) to smooth it out and was happy with the process. Then a lot of hand sanding on that area up to 600 grit.The whole piece was sanded from 150 grit to 600 grit, polished with tripoli and then white diamond compound. Tripoli is about 800 -1000 grit. White Diamond is about 1500-1800 grit. I then used Howard's Feed-N-Wax and then followed it by a buffing with carnauba wax. This process really allows the chatoyance to show in the wild grain.Thanks for looking everyone.

Maple Urn

I'm not in any hurry to take up occupancy but it's ready for when the time comes. Maple from a tree close to home. Single coat of tung oil and paste wax (i like the flat finish)
