my dad recently moved to a continuing care community, and i convinced him to leave behind his old office desk (very heavy, particleboard and veneer). told him i'd build a desk for him, “you can do that?”finally finished this red oak desk – don't think i'll ever work with this material again…used the wrong plane and gouged the top. bought a new scraper, spent time sharpening it and testing it before touching the desk top. spent hours repairing the damage i caused smhseveral attempts at a simple penetrating stain…scrape, sand, try again. tested my biscuit joiner to attach the top with z-clips; it was the first thing that went right lolon the plus side, this was the first time i'd tried floating tenons – love the strength it gives joints. can't wait to try it again :) Read more here
