No wine .. it's time!
Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)
The original image, on which the carving is based, came from a reprint of a series of water colors that were originally published in 1877 titled “Grapes and Grape Vines of California.” I was intrigued by the beauty of the “plates”, and chose one I felt would best be made into a carving. Originally I completed the one displayed then decided to to make a second copy and install them on bookends. I burned the second carving, mostly completed, (in frustration) when the cherry wood fractured at several fragile locations (because of the grain.) After several years I regretted that decision.
As with many of my carvings, especially those in hard woods, I prefer not to paint them and only use “neutral” stains and oils to protect them from weathering, etc.It is currently displayed at a place in the kitchen where I place opened wine for future consumption.
