Little leather awl
Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)
I'm beginning to wade into leather working. I've bought the leather and started to plan my project and found I needed a few more tools than I currently have, one of which was a awl. Instead of buying one a light bulb went off and I had one of those I can make that moments. It took me maybe a hour. The wood is small piece of oak dowel rod. I drilled a small hole in it and screwed a screw in halfway. I cut the head off the screw and that allowed me to put it in my drill press (I still currently don't have a lathe). I cranked the drill press up to high and used a hand held belt sander to profile it. I couldn't resist putting some rings around it. After that was done I found a used nail and cut the head off it and used the drill press again along with some metal files. When finished I heated the full end of the nail and burnt it into the wood. I finished it off with a coat of old English stain. I used it for the first time just a bit ago, I'm still not sure what I'm doing but it seems to do what it is suppose to.
Thanks for reading!
