Just finished another Jewellery box, this one is a surprised birthday present for a good friend.Its veneered in Bubinga with Sycamore edging and the top has a panel of Birdseye Maple and her initials inlayed in Bubinga. Made a tray for it from Sycamore and used some Purple Heart for the mitre splines , and its all lined in Pigs Suede. Used Neat Elite hinges from Ian Hawthorn, super quality and easy to fit accurately.
Pretty happy with the outcome, the Bubinga veneer was a bit of a challenge to use as it needed flattening first and was also prone to cracking very easy. Lots of tiny hairline cracks in it but I didn't mind them, kind of added a bit of character to the box. There were a couple of larger ones that I filled, virtually impossible to see them though now its finished as the wood is so patterned..
