I have been working on a YELLOW CEDAR log section that a friend gave me with hollow turning projects. developing new skills and having a great time while I have bee building a wood lathe for a friend. It is complete, he turned his first bowl as a test run and took it home to set up.The hollow turnings I have made I have used my large four point steady rest, hollowing out as much as I dared, then removing it to finish up with the lazer pointer. I needed a steady rest that did not interfere with the lazer beam. How do you people that do hollow tuning solve this problem.
This is what I came up with, based on the principle of my first one that was super strong and bullet proof.
For the arms I used the same principle of the first one, tapered locking arms, this time I used a slot and one fine threaded bolt.

It worked very well hollowing out this project, used a round nosed lathe bit and got a relatively smooth surface on the inside with confidence of not cutting through.
The foot and finial was also fun to make. Both from one piece of wood even though it shows two colors.
