I saw a computer simulation of this mechanism on Youtube and decided it would make an interesting and colorful hand-cranked wood model.I used red oak for the base and 2 main vertical pieces. The moving pieces are made from hard maple, and then dyed with a water based dye.The finished model runs very well, with very little friction.The kids should enjoy this one. A couple times a year with no virus, I take most of my wood toys to public events so the kids can play with them.
