Going Away Gift - Walnut and Epoxy
Furnished content.

Going Away Gift - Walnut and EpoxyI recently made this going away gift for a co-worker-she and I had worked together (on a daily basis) for 4 years. Most of these details are the same as other boxes I have made over the years. I was able to wrap the walnut grain around all 4 corners using this jig that I made years ago; box joint jigThere were a few voids in the walnut lid that I filled with matching epoxy from her name. For the splines on the lid, I used inverted pieces of scrap maple flooring that still had the “haunch” profile in it – that created a void to add some more epoxy for a slight detail. The state of Michigan inlay is maple burl & the veneer maple top was something I picked up on e-bay years ago.She is a big Chris Farley fan so that was my inspiration for the underlid character and phrase.Bottom is made from aromatic cedar which she will get the scent from every time the lid is opened.Finished with GF seal-a-sell & multiple coats of GF arm-r-seal.Thanks for looking.Bill in MI
