This is a project that I began in the winter of 2005. The big leaf Maple grew in my yard and is estimated to be 250 to 350 years old. The poor health of the tree was evident as it was rotting and dropping dangerous branches. I decided to remove it but I wanted to save the wood. After hand digging around the roots on the inside of the hollow tree I was able to cut it off and wedge it up enough to get chains around it and lift it out with a backhoe.
It took seven years of work to get it to where it is and I've been maintaining it from 2012 until now.
