I had some small chunks of walnut laying about my bench. They had a nice figure and I figured why not. So I hand cut a dovetail joint on one side and hand cut a box joint on the other. After all it's just a straight walled dovetail.
Then re-sawed a few other pieces and ran a square blade through some for the coasters and there it is. Nothing wasted.
