My brother-in-law in Missouri asked if I could make a Charcuterie Board for his daughter in Texas. She wanted it big, so decided to make a Charcuterie Board for serving and a Cutting Board with juice grooves, ( their request ), for cutting the food up. This way she wouldn't have to worry about marking up the Char. board as bad. Made them out of the same wood to keep it looking more like a set. The Char. board is 17 1/2 X 31 1/2 inches, and the cutting board is 15 1/2 X 11 1/2 inches. They were both 1/2 inch larger in both directions, but after trimming etc., ended up the measurements stated. The char. board has Purpleheart, Claro Walnut, regular Maple, wavy Maple, and a really heavy marked Bird's Eye Maple. Was finished with five coats of Wipe on Poly with a day between each coat and sanded or buffed between each, then waxed. The hand holds were hogged out with a forstner bit and finished with my osc. spindle sander, then routed to round them. The cutting board was made with the same wood as the char. board. Juice groove was put in using the jig I made on my projects page. It was then soaked/sealed in a mineral oil, bees wax combination that I use. I put rubber bumper feet under the char. board to make it easier to pick up.
