Built-in Breakfast Nook Bench with StorageI always wanted a breakfast nook with storage and we finally bought a home that had the perfect space. This was my first time building something from scratch. I did the build all by myself with self scribbled plans – no help, except my dad and my husband hauled the plywood from the big box store and got it into the garage for me, because I'm only 5 feet tall and probably weigh a little more than a full sheet of MDF…a girl needs some help sometimes.Materials:
I used about 6 sheets of birch plywood for the base and a half sheet of MDF for the end caps. Re-routed 2 hvac ducts and an electrical outlet (got one of those fancy ones with USB plugs too). Sewed all the cushions which are attached but have zippers so they are removable for washing. Used 7 yards of upholstery velvet, 5 yards of non-slip utility fabric (underside), 11 yards of foam, and 20 yards of dacron. Used 5 pairs of Hafele Lid Stay bench hinges so we could open the storage without removing cushions.Equipment:
table saw, miter saw, circular saw, multi-tool, kreg jigDecor:
Light fixture was from West Elm, table from Modway. Paint is Benjamin Moore Advance in Chantilly Lace.Challenges:
None of the walls are plum or straight (like they ever are) and all the angles and wall measurements were different. I also got a puppy during this project.
