Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Bellamy Eagle and Half HullI previously uploaded a Bellamy Eagle, .. this (picture) is of an earlier carving (not necessarily better) that is included with a half hull. The half hull was completed years before the eagle carving and was designed as a setting for the telescope which was an instrument of a (former) family member who navigated the great lakes and and the St. Lawrence River. The pair seemed to me to be appropriately displayed together, though the half hull is an ocean going sail ship, and the telescope was used to navigate on fresh waters bordering on Canada. For those interested, .. half hulls were used for hundreds of years (instead of computers and drawings) as a means of assuring the people who actually build the ships, could handle and make (relatively) accurate measurements of the placement and shape of hull. As an aside .. if you're interested, .. half hulls, from Europe and the US are likely available “on-line”, though my original source for that pictured was actually extracted from a “blue-print”. Yeahh – I know most of you have never heard of the term , ..
