Another hatchet handle
Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)
I've looked for a brush axe for several years. Recently one came up on eBay at a good price and it even came with this little plumb hatchet head and sheath. The axe requires some repair and is at a friends house that it a welder. So to kill some time I made a handle for this little guy. The handle is just a straight grained 2×4 pine cause I don't have any hickory handy. It measures a exact 21inch long. Possibly a bit to long for this head but it handles well (pun intended). I torched it cause I like the dark color and coated it in some dark old English stain and coated it heavily in BLO. It's pine so I'm sure it'll need replaced sooner rather than later but at least now I have a pattern. I dug very deep into the handle making discussion on a forum a while back and one fella said something that makes sense. He said something along the lines of if I'm making the handle I can make it from anything I want and if it breaks I'll just make another. And as PaMac says it ain't gotta be perfect, it just has to be. And be it is, it cuts like a dream.
