A friend asked me to make a stool as close as possible in Red Oak to what the last two pictures are of a stool her father made her with plywood and screws. No mechanical fasteners here just tusks and wedges. The angled mortise was a challenge by hand.
She will stain and finish to match her floors. Of course she gets a cut off to test color.
