Spartan Helmet carvingMy first project carving. I came across an interesting drawing on Pintrest, and decided to make these out of some basswood I picked up recently. One of my sons follows a streamer called “Spartikus” and he has a logo that looks like this, including the shape of the sword damage to the eye.Probably one of the most interesting experiences, was working to create the shape and the carving, and then literally taking a hatchet to it to create the damaged scarring look to it. I found the basswood very soft and easy to shape, and it was probably a good choice to make the deep dent type details here.The finish was a first attempt at a “dry brush” technique. I was trying to give it a grimy, worn look, and highlight the contours and detail.
