Sofa Table - my first Fine Furniture Project
Furnished content. (from Lumberjocks.com)
This is my first ever Fine Furniture project. This was learnt/built as part of a Udemy course on Fine Furniture making by George Vondriska. I used Yellow Poplar as I wanted to use Hardwood and didn't want to spend more money on finer woods like Cherry.Absolutely loved this build and the course was fantastic. I will list some of the main things I learnt below 1. How to build Reveal 2. How to use router for making the profile you see at the bottom of aprons 3. How to build and attach shelf – with notch around the legs 4. Tapered Legs 5. Beveled table top and rounded over 6. Book matching leg glue up 7. Jointing table top and glue up – paying attention to annual rings 8. Using table top fasteners for allowing wood movement 9. Planing all legs and rails to identical sizes using planer.Although the course precisely teaches you Mortise and Tenon joinery, I didn't want to apply that for this project (as im a beginner – however, i will use it later). I used my Beadlock Pro jig from Rockler (not the new version as of 2021, but the older version they had before). I absolutely love Beadlock pro jig and joinery. Will probably use it whenever I can.The course was FANTASTIC and I recommend it to anyone interested. It teaches you SO many things (above list) and more, that you can use for other projects again and again.Till today, when i build a small table (like a night stand) – I go back to that course, watch it so that i'm doing things in sequence and proceed step by step.I hope to use this knowledge for all my future projects.
