Screwdrivers for Christmas
Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)
I have had an idea for years to go back to traditional days and make a home made Christmas. I knew with a large family I would have to start early so I began back in August. Trying to decide what to make became the problem. Then I thought, what guy wouldn't want a hand made multi drive screw driver. I hit my wood stock and made the blanks, and with pretty weather, began turning. (I have to do lathe work outside). I got them to shape and finished the turning and installing the shaft inside. These will cover my Brothers, Brother in laws and Sons just fine. The woods are walnut, pear, maple, cherry, box elder and oak. In one of the walnut one's I got creative and cut in for a Virginia state quarter in the end. For a BIL that recently retired from the state. I have a mug made by hokieken and he put one on the top and I always wanted to try this. Thanks for the inspiration Ken! For a finish I sanded to 800 grit then wet sanded to 1000. I topped this off with shellac and used a rag to “burn in” the finish. They are dry after application and then waxed. Smooth as silk!I'm hoping my Idea works out and all my family enjoy my trip to nostalgia. Now to begin the projects for the ladies in my family! Thanks for lookingThe photography is my Son's work, and he don't even know one of these are his! :-)))
