Maple Live Edge Table
Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)
My son and his girlfriend purchased their first home. I built this maple table for their dining area. The table is 36” wide and 72” long. The top is made from two live edge maple slabs (originally about 2 1/4 inches thick) Unfortunately each slab had quite a twist. To maximize the final thickness after flattening I had to cut them down and re-glue them. The top ended up at about 1 3/4” thick. The legs can be removed from the tabletop to facilitate transportation. The legs are attached to the tabletop using 1/4 20 threaded inserts and bolts. The holes in the top rail have been elongated to allow for movement of the tabletop. Each leg section is joined with a through mortise with a wedged tenon. I added the diagonal brace t p the bottom stretcher to prevent racking. It is also attached with threaded inserts and bolts. The table is finished with OSMO oil wax finish.
