I've made a lot of keepsake boxes in the past. I've also made several all wooden pocket knives. I've made boxes for the pocket knives too, but I haven't made a keepsake box that includes a place to store a pocket knife. The box is made from a large Mesquite burl.
The knife scales are made from some Bodark that dates back to the 18th century. I'll tell you the story if you're interested. The rest of the knife is made from some Bodark heart and sap wood I harvested about 10 years ago.

Here is the box before finishing.
The finish on both the knife and box is blonde shellac applied using the French Polishing technique. I feel like I have more control over the final overall finish that way.
