Heirloom Wall Shelf
Furnished content. (from Lumberjocks.com)
I normally prefer reproducing 18th century furniture. But, with the passing of my father this year, my sisters and I were faced with the difficult task of dividing my parent's possessions. Mother had a serpentine front, wall shelf that two of my sisters both wanted. It was factory made veneer with dado joinery. Probably made in the 1910-1920's. The joinery is failing and some of the veneer is missing but to my sisters it was an heirloom. So, for Christmas, I made a copy of it for the sister who let it go. The one on the left is my copy. The original is on the right. The bottom is joined to the sides with half-blind dovetails, the shelves with stopped sliding dovetails. It's made with solid cherry and poplar. Instead of the 1/4 1/4 1/4 drawer of the original, I made a classic dovetailed drawer.Perhaps, the copy can become the heirloom.
