DIY Drum Sander - StumpyNubs version
Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)
I built this drum sander more than a year ago but just dropped a motor in it this past weekend. I feel like this is something to make and then totally redo based on your experience. I'd change a number of things but won't go into great detail. But, it works! For the next few weeks until my Supermax arrives I'll play with it but then maybe I'll turn it into a true sand flea or something. I thought I'd get a motor easily but finding a +1hp motor for a good deal was not easy. By the time I spent $200-250 or so on parts and then thinking of spending +$200 on a motor for a hand-operated and not so accurate DIY tool I figured I'd just buy the real thing. I ended up using my grandfather's radial arm saw motor. I was using the saw as a disk sander and bought a real disk sander and took the saw apart. It was too bulky. Still was fun to do the build and it kept me busy.
