Bookcases from reclaimed lumber
Furnished content. (from Lumberjocks.com)
This is the finished bookcases that I made for my step daughter. The wood was reclaimed from the demolition of a 150 year old home. The co-worker who did the demolition was going to burn it in a wood stove if he could not sell it. I purchased it immediately. The average size was 1 3/4 thick, 14” wide by 14 feet long. This is one of the boards, notice the saw marks. I thought that it must have been cut by a pit saw. The next year my wife and I visited the Mercer Musium and there was a vertical saw mill displayed, over 3 stories high. In the description of the display It listed Huntingdon County as the location of the saw acquisition. At a class reunion I was taking to a class mate who does a lot of local history studies and he said that the saw mill was from Saltillo, the town were the house was demo. The wood was attractive and I wanted to show the grain more but my step daughter wanted it dark.
