I had a birch branch that was 6 inch in diameter and splatted all around. I wanted to preserve as much of the splatting as possible so made the hourglass figure. Not knowing what I would do with the finished piece when I made it. The idea of an ostrich egg holder came to mind early in the morning and sure enough it fit almost perfectly. Happy to save a bit of wood from the fireplace.Al
