Another Burl Box Gall Bowl

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Another Burl Box Gall BowlAfter a failed attempt at making a more traditional box (cutting it into pieces, fitting them together… as I've mentioned earlier, I've never met a right angle I couldn't make wrong)... I went at the box process again the same way I did on the box I most recently posted.Besides using a Sawzall, rather than a pruning saw, for cutting out the box shape, my process was pretty much the same. However, I did try a new technique on the finish. To keep the wood from getting really dark, I first applied a dead flat varnish. Once it dried, I applied my polyurethane. Admittedly, I read about applying the dead flat varnish first on some helpful dude's blog. You can read it: hereI was amazed at how well the dead flat varnish not only didn't darken the wood when I applied it but, after it dried, it also kept my high gloss poly from darkening the wood. Here's the finished box:By the way, my wife is out of town for work, so that should explain all the time for woodworking. Come Tuesday, I'll be cleaning the house vigorously. The kids and I have been pretty feral for the last couple days.

Portable Planer/Jointer Milling Station with Dust Collection

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Portable Planer/Jointer Milling Station with Dust CollectionBuilt Tommy's One Minute Workshop Milling Station. Great concept, but one significant issue – DW735 dust collection. The sealed bucket + Dust Deputy cyclone generates too much back-pressure and so chips are coming out of the front of the planer and some are left behind, underneath the knives on the planer table. PITA. Tried 4” hoses, also tried removing the planer's impeller (with and w/o shop vac), very modest improvement. Considering a different approach – eliminate the bucket, and add a filter/door in the rectangular compartment where the bucket sits. Similar to what Matt/Kellly did in earlier posts like this one: https://www.lumberjocks.com/projects/101876Looking for any ideas anyone may have to improve upon this setup, with the goal being to keep it self-contained, e.g., no giant external dust collector, or large DustRight bag, etc.
