Tissue box #3

The design credits go mostly to my wife. We seem to make a pretty good team. There were a lot of challenges with this project. All the red woods (padauk, red heart and bloodwood) all bleed terribly when sanded or finished. I had to carefully shellac the areas around those woods before sanding. The powdered black mineral used for the swallowtail butterfly also loves to get in pores. Other non-wood materials are acrylic and mother of pearl.

Blanket Ladder
Furnished content. (from Lumberjocks.com)
My wife saw something very similar of Wayfair so she asked me to make her one. I had never heard of a blanket ladder before but since she gives me time and space to do projects it was the least I could do.The wood is white oak that I salvaged when a contractor jacked up a nearby house. I have been drying the wood in my basement for at least five years.I turned the tenons on the rungs then wedged them in place. If this were an actual ladder I would use square tenons but, since we're only supporting blankets, that seemed like overkill. Used oil and wax finish. The wife is happy so definitely a worthwhile project.
