My wife and I were tired of having a dark, cluttered office. We were using a repurposed dining table as a shared office desk. See “before” picture below:I had some old mahogany on my lumber rack that I decided to put to use. We created a design to open up the room and bring in more light. After several design iterations, we decided to build two matching floating wall corner desks. Lava sheet boat

Thirty years ago my brother in law while at the university of Calgary had joined a geological survey for the university and had spent the whole summer exploring the Rocky Mountains near Clearwater b.c. He found this lava sheet and gave it to me as a keepsake. It's been on display at our house all those years. I finally got to design a base for it as it has been quite hard on my shelves. I had a nice chunk of claro walnut in my wood stash that became the base for this beautiful lava sheet. The base was carved and unintentionally it looked like the sole of a shoe. However, I didn't want to call the carving a boot as the wood carving was a boat for the lava sheet. Enjoy. Lava bootman.
