French Cleat Jig Saw tool holder with additional storage.
Furnished content. (from Lumberjocks.com)
My small shop (12×24) doesn't have a lot of wall space available since the front is two 4' wide doors, there is a window on the back wall, the right side of the shop has my D/C system is mounted mid height on the wall, so I wanted to make my cleat holders as compact as possible, and most of what I've seen online seem to take up a lot of horizontal wall space, which seems to me to eat up space. I haven't put up a bunch of cleat hangers yet, hoping to get that done soon, but had a bit of time to try this holder. The other thing I've seen lacking in most tool holders is a bit of storage for that tool, this one being for my jig saw, I wanted to have space for loose blades, packaged blades and the non-mar base as well as the anti-splinter insert. The cleat itself is 3/4” thick BB, the sides are 1/2”, the bottom is 3/8”, the divider between the drawers is 1/4”, and the drawers are all made with 1/8”. For all joints, I used wood glue and a pin nailer, with exception to the cleat, that is also glued, but is screwed on as well for extra strength. I wanted a lip on the edges so the saw won't slip off easily, so the top shelf was dadoed to give me the 3/8” lip on the sides. The dado in the middle was cut a bit too wide for the 1/4” ply, but with the glue and pins holding it in place, it will work okay even if it looks a bit hinky. And yes, the drawer sides are pinned as well as glued, there were a few that had to be pulled out and repined.

Christmas Gift for Aunt
Furnished content. (from Lumberjocks.com)
This year, I drew my Aunt's name from a hat. I think she asked for a gift certificate from the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. The cap on the gift is $50 I believe.I decided to be cheap and make her gift.A twisted and ugly piece of Afrormosia scrap cutoff that cost $3, an ugly rough sawn piece of Cocobolo for $4plus$0.20 for some neodymium magnets, about $0.05 worth of epoxy, $0.10 worth of Danish Oil, about $0.15 worth of furniture wax, $1 for some rubber feet, about $1 in sandpaper, and maybe $0.10 combined for some painter's tape, frog tape, black enamel paint, gold paint, clear enamel spray, and last but not least, about $0.50 worth of Q-tips, popsicle sticks, and rags.Total cost: ~$10I bet I have the cheapest gift this year (woot!).Now, ...We take all those ingredients and add one hand saw, one hand plane, a surfacing sled with handheld router, one exacto knife, ...one Shaper Origin, and …3 weeks of time.Add a smidge of electricity (for the surfacing router and Shaper Origin) and poof, this is what you get (see photos)ASIDE: NO hammers were used. Though I have thought of just telling my Aunt that I found a piece of wood on the side of the road and hit it with a hammer a few times and thought it looked good.
