Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Four Wooden RingsAt last Saturday's craft show I received order for 2 rings….one is a size 5 1/4 African Blackwood ring and the other is a size 12 walnut ring with turquoise inlay. I made two of each in case I scrapped one out. Actually I made 3 of the blackwood rings and one did blow up on the mandrel. They are finished with EEE and Shellawax.I added some shots of the mandrels I use. They go from size 5-12.Cheers, Jim

Just a little something

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Just a little somethingHello everyone, I'm just about ready to get back in the shop after having a laminoplasty operation on my C3, C4, and C5 vertebrae. I've had spinal stenosis in my neck and lower back for years and I had to finally get it fixed in my neck. I was losing sensation in my fingers and was told if it wasn't fixed, it could progress to a point where I wouldn't have control or feeling in my thumb and index fingers. Here is a couple of things I made just before I went in for surgery. The acorn is made with red oak for the bottom and cedar for the top. I covered the inside of the top with tiger maple to hide the the hole made from the tailstock. I used leather in the bottom of the container. I used my wood burning pen to make the design on the top and I drilled a crooked hole for the stem. I finished everything with shellac. The base is unknown wood with a walnut trim. I used brass to form the stand and used shrink wrap to form a cushion on the brass to keep the acorn from slipping off the stand. The mushroom is made from a chunk of wood from a fireplace log, however I have no idea what it is. I used my wood burning pen to add the detail. I have no idea what I'll do with it, I was just bored and decided to try one.
