Oh Canada

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Oh CanadaAnother “rescue wood” project … a friend asked if I had any use for an old cutting board she was about to throw out. It was a nice, large, thick, end-grain maple block. So with a respectful hat-tip to its early life as one of Canada's National trees, along with a little slicing & dicing … and a few free floor scraps of lathing from Home Depot …

Wood Bows

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Wood BowsIt was mentioned I didn't have any of my bows in my projects. I guess I never though of posting bows on a woodworking site, but they are all wood, so I guess that makes sense. The first picture is a White Oak, Ash Backed Bow with Bloodwood Handle and Power Lam I just finished. The second is the handle section. 50#@28” drawNext is a white oak with walnut back reflex deflex bow. Again 50#@28” drawA reflex deflex in the formNext is one of my favorites, a walnut backed with maple. 64#@28”draw, although at that weight these old joints creak when I shoot it. It will likely end up going to someone younger.Last one is a 3 piece take down. 50#@28”More of my diy stuff at ( plenty more bows arrows and other cool stuff )
https://www.diy.timetestedtools.netI still have some bows that were made back in the 80s and 90s. Some I can't remember if I made them or my father did. Some we built together. About a year ago I decided to give the bow and arrow making another run. I'm still at it.

Flocking

Furnished content.
(from Popularwoodworking.com)

Take that special drawer or box to the next level. Flocking is a two-step process that involves spraying tiny fibrous particles onto an adhesive-coated surface. Imagine spray-on velvet. This is a great medium for sprucing-up the inside of jewelry boxes, …Source

Bellamy Eagle and Half Hull

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Bellamy Eagle and Half HullI previously uploaded a Bellamy Eagle, .. this (picture) is of an earlier carving (not necessarily better) that is included with a half hull. The half hull was completed years before the eagle carving and was designed as a setting for the telescope which was an instrument of a (former) family member who navigated the great lakes and and the St. Lawrence River. The pair seemed to me to be appropriately displayed together, though the half hull is an ocean going sail ship, and the telescope was used to navigate on fresh waters bordering on Canada. For those interested, .. half hulls were used for hundreds of years (instead of computers and drawings) as a means of assuring the people who actually build the ships, could handle and make (relatively) accurate measurements of the placement and shape of hull. As an aside .. if you're interested, .. half hulls, from Europe and the US are likely available “on-line”, though my original source for that pictured was actually extracted from a “blue-print”. Yeahh – I know most of you have never heard of the term , ..
