Stabilized Maple Mallet

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Stabilized Maple MalletThis mallet is stabilized hard maple. I rough-turned the blank for the head, and stabilized it with Cactus Juice, then finish turned it.The handle is also hard maple. The head is not glued to the handle … the handle is a 1” diameter shaft that goes all the way through the head and is held is place by the two stainless steel screws, making either the head or the handle replaceable. For a good grip, I wrapped the handle with hockey tape (per Rob Cosman). The overall length is 9 inches. The head is 4” in length, 3” in diameter, tapering to 2-3/4”. Total weight of the mallet is 16.25 ounces.

Arts And Crafts Style Bathroom Vanity

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Arts And Crafts Style Bathroom Vanity This is the last of four bathroom vanities I converted to the Arts And Crafts style.
This is what the cabinets looked like before.
I built the rails and styles and inner slats from wood from cabinet doors of other cabinets I converted, and the inset drawer fronts from the old overlay drawer fronts.

I added an arch at the base that gives it an interesting detail.

Here I'm installing the arch. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be to screw in. A lot of upward force had to be applied to seat the screws. I'm glad square drives were invented.
I made a jig to cut compound angles on the columns.Ebony screw covers and faux tenons were used on the top and bottom of the columns to conceal the screws.
I cut the shape of the columns out on the band saw and finished it with a oscillating drum sander, file and sand paper.
The face frames are sanded stained and finished with 3 coats of oil Minwax Poly Wipe On.

The doors, drawer fronts and columns were stained and finished with minwax Spray On Poly.
Attaching the columns, gluing and finishing the ebony.
Thanks for visiting.
