Present for Dad

Furnished content.
(from Lumberjocks.com)

Present for DadIn a couple of weeks my dad will become the new Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Lake Havasu City (for those that know him, please keep this quiet). I new I wanted to make him something to commemorate this occasion for him as it is the highest position at any local Elks Lodge. After talking to my mom about it we decided she would pick up a bottle of his favorite scotch and I would build the box for it along with the laser engraving. I am sure there will be some ridicule from someone regarding trademarks or something like that but to them I say, only myself and one other know the difference between the original trademark and this engraving. This is my second attempt at box joints, cut on my “new” router extension wing, and my first time making box joints this small. All in all I am very happy with it but unfortunately due to all of the restrictions of Covid-19, I will not be able to attend his induction. The majority of the box was made with honey locust and the lid is a resawn piece of walnut. It's a good thing it was a resaw because I forgot to measure twice and unfortunately cut the first lid about 3/8 of an inch too short. The entire box was sealed with boiled linseed oil and I included a bag of walnut hand plane shavings to cushion the bottle of Glenlivet. I wish I could be there to see the look on his face when he receives it but I know he will love it whether I am there or not. Cheers dad, and congratulations!
