My niece is Ukrainian, and for her birthday I made her this pendant necklace with the Ukrainian coat of arms trident. It's dyed-blue maple burl with yellowheart inlay. All CNC work, of course.

MUSHROOMS - Got a high doing these!
Furnished content. (from Lumberjocks.com)
A couple weeks ago I had given a carving course at our Lee Valley Tools – carve some mushrooms! The instructions i gave my class was this, that the mushrooms have a cap that comes in all shapes and sizes and the caps are held up by a stem! Then to make matters worse I cut up a pile of my scrap wood into rough shapes that could be carved into something that was bulbous stuck unto a thin or stout stem. The pieces varied not only in shape and sizes but in wood species. This was my chance to clear up some of my miscellaneous wood inventory. Each class participant had the choice of wood and number of carving blocks to affect a cluster of some weird mushrooms. Boy did we ever go on a trip! My mushrooms were of the following wood- caps cedar fence boards, stems, spruce, pine or birch and bases were cut from exotic hardwoods from central America. The higher I got the weirder came the shapes along with their placement on the base.Enjoy! The Boatman!
