I'm not sure what you call this. Bowl, vessel, hollow turning?Made from a Yellow Cedar Burl. 4.5”D x 2.75”H. The opening is 2.5”. Salad Bowl Finish.I couldn't finish the bottom the way I normally do. I was afraid it would split, there is a pretty good crack which I filled with super glue.

That's not firewood!

While visiting our daughter's family in December, last year, our son-in-law was about to throw these two pieces of “firewood” into the wood stove but I managed to wrestle them away from him – I don't get my hands on spalted maple very often. Our son had asked me to make him a couple simple nesting tables and I thought that the spalted maple might dress up an otherwise boring looking table set. There wasn't enough to do the entire tops but I had enough other salvaged maple scraps to make up the difference.

Small Spalted Alder Bowl

Finally got a chuck! Big rain storm a month or so ago felled old alder trees on a friends acreage. Got to grab a few logs and cuts. A lot of it spalted. First time trying green turning and to quote a fellow BCer, (AVE) it's got some apprentice marksFinished with tung oil and oil based poly.
