Keepsake Heart Box for a little 5 year old young lady

I was helping a neighbor with a project that she was working on and she had her little 5 year old daughter with her. On my bench I had some small pieces of walnut that I used to cut some hearts out of for inlays that I needed for a box I was making.
I was just throwing these pieces out thinking they were unuseable. When the little girl saw the hearts she smiled at me so I gave her a few to take home. After They left I thought maybe I should just make a little keepsake box for the little girl using some of the waste from making the inlay hearts. After I made it I decided to make the inserts red. Well this is what I came up with. When they returned to my shop I gave the box to the little girl; she was so happy! Made me day!

Thought I'd try SOMETHING different

So, as the title says, I thought I would try something different. You know, BRIGHT IDEA.
After the other segmented platter worked so well my AMBITIONS were FLYING HIGH. I did have the good sense not to use good wood for this though.
The plan was to reverse the angle of the wedges (segments).
The timbers are Jarrah, She-oak and Meranti, it's about 9 inches diameter.
If you look closely you will notice whits stuff in all the flaws, that's White Diamond polish wax, which proved another point. Don't use it unless you have a really smooth surface.I have this sitting on top of my desk to remind me that I shouldn't try it again.Thanks for looking and C & C welcome.Bob

Loom

This is a loom I made for my neighbor, Carolyn, in Arizona. She weaves hats out of yarn and she mentioned that the 14” one she had was a little too big and it had 42 holes. So I made her this one that is 12” and has 36 holes. It is made from a piece of white laminate covered 5/8” maple plywood. The hole locations were done on the wood lathe. I borrowed the tees from my wife's stash of golf tees. There was no need for any finish on it.I normally don't like to leave any construction holes in a project but I did leaf the holes from the faceplate mounting on the back side where they will never bee seen. That way I could cut it down or put in another pattern of holes if she ever needed them.Cheers, Jim
